Membership Terms & Conditions of the Independent and Peaceful Australia Network
1. Introduction
These Terms and Conditions govern your membership with the Independent and Peaceful Australia Network (IPAN). By applying for or renewing membership, you agree to be bound by these terms. Please read them carefully before submitting your application.
2. Membership Eligibility
Membership is open to:
- Individuals who support IPAN's mission of an independent and peaceful Australian foreign policy;
- Organisations, community groups, unions, and other entities that share IPAN's values and objectives.
IPAN reserves the right to refuse or revoke membership at its discretion, particularly where an applicant's conduct or affiliations are inconsistent with IPAN's values.
3. Membership Types and Fees
IPAN offers the following membership categories:
- Individual Member ($50/year) — Full membership with voting rights and access to all member resources.
- Student / Concession ($20/year) — For students, pensioners, and unemployed individuals. Proof of eligibility may be requested.
- Organisation Member ($200/year) — For organisations and groups committed to peace and independence. Includes voting rights at General Meetings.
- Supporter (Free) — Receive updates and newsletters without financial commitment. No voting rights.
4. Payment and Renewal
Membership fees are due annually. IPAN will send a renewal reminder prior to your membership expiry date. Failure to renew will result in lapse of membership and associated benefits. Fees are non-refundable except in exceptional circumstances at IPAN's discretion.
5. Member Obligations
As a member of IPAN, you agree to:
- Uphold IPAN's values of peace, independence, and respect for international law;
- Treat fellow members, staff, and the public with courtesy and respect;
- Not engage in conduct that brings IPAN into disrepute;
- Comply with IPAN's Constitution, policies, and any resolutions of the Coordination Committee;
- Notify IPAN of changes to your contact details.
6. Member Rights
Financial members (Individual, Student/Concession, and Organisation) are entitled to:
- Receive IPAN's newsletter and member communications;
- Attend and vote at General Meetings;
- Access member-only resources and documents;
- Participate in IPAN campaigns and events;
- Stand for election to the Coordination Committee (Organisation members only, subject to IPAN's Constitution).
7. Termination of Membership
Membership may be terminated by:
- Resignation — A member may resign at any time by providing written notice to IPAN;
- Non-renewal — Membership lapses automatically if fees are not paid by the renewal date;
- Expulsion — The Coordination Committee may expel a member for conduct inconsistent with IPAN's values or Constitution, following a fair process that includes an opportunity for the member to respond.
8. Privacy and Data
IPAN collects and handles your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Your information will be used to administer your membership, send communications you have consented to, and support IPAN's activities. It will not be sold or disclosed to third parties without your consent, except as required by law. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for full details.
9. Communications
By becoming a member, you consent to receiving IPAN's newsletter and membership-related communications by email. You may opt out of marketing communications at any time by contacting IPAN or using the unsubscribe link in any email. Transactional communications related to your membership (e.g., renewal notices, receipts) may still be sent.
10. Intellectual Property
All content, materials, and resources made available to members remain the intellectual property of IPAN or their respective owners. Members may use such materials for personal, non-commercial purposes consistent with IPAN's mission. Reproduction or redistribution for commercial purposes is prohibited without prior written consent.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by law, IPAN is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your membership or participation in IPAN activities. This does not affect any rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law.
12. Amendments
IPAN may amend these Terms and Conditions from time to time. Members will be notified of material changes by email. Continued membership after notification constitutes acceptance of the amended terms.
13. Governing Law
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria.
